Mary Lane Poe CANNON CO. COUNTRY STORES

Hi! I am a local MTSU student who has been diligently working a project to locate, map, and research old country stores. If you are interested in hearing some of our work (my class & professor Dr. Doug Heffington) then tune in to FM 89.5 on April 19th at 10am. A radio show will be airing voicing our research and the importance of this project. These old stores have died out and most of them sit lone on the road. Being in the FRA “Jungle” didn’t intimidate the Lions who call their own home field “The Jungle” and the mighty Lions roared back in the second half with 24 unanswered points improving their record to 1-2 for the season and spoiling… Continue

Cannon High News Friday Night Football

Cannon County fell to 0-2 after losing to the York Institute in the Jungle Friday night. Despite the light drizzle, the Lions maintained fan support throughout the game and offered some thrilling moments to please the crowd. Receiving the ball at the kick off of the second half, Tony Harris (30) brought the crowd to their feet with a runback that looked like it was going all the way to the end zone but he was stopped after powering through the arms of several York tacklers. Cannon County moved… Continue

Jim Gibbs Woodbury Police Setup Sobriety Road Blocks

Millie Webb was burned over 70 percent of her body and her 4-year-old daughter was killed, all at the hands of a drunken driver 37 years ago. Her 19-month-old nephew also died that day when the driver slammed into the rear of the family's car. "I want other families to be spared our pain," said Webb, former national president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. To deter drunken driving, Woodbury police plan to beef up their presence for the Labor Day holiday weekend. Cannon County Constable Ji… Continue

Jim Gibbs No Four-Lane to McMinnville: Could it be Good News?

The much anticipated four-lane highway connecting Woodbury to McMinnville will not become a reality anytime in the near future, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation. A lack of Federal funding has caused the Department to significantly shorten the length of the highway and it will not even come close to reaching Woodbury. Cannon and Warren County residents have anticipated the construction of the highway for the last several years and its completion would have meant a much eas… Continue
