The Cannon County Lions took the field Friday tonight for the first regular season game. The Lions faced Sequatchie County and former Cannon County Head Coach Chad Barger. Barger returned to Sequatchie County to take the head coaching position.
Cannon County's new head coach Andrew Bartsch told the Lions in practice, “it’s simple, tomorrow you punch in, punch them and punch out!” The coach believes strong support from the student body is also important to the game plan. Students who displayed their school pride by being painted for the game were allow free admission to the game if they arrive before 6:00pm.
The Lions got off to a rough start giving up two touchdowns to Sequatchie in the first half and negating a Cannon County touchdown because of a foul during the play.
Taking the field in the second half down 13 points, the Lion defense rallied around a Sequatchie fumble in the first minutes of play that was picked up run back for a score.
While The Cannon Lions roared during the second half, their effort wasn't enough to offset the errors in the beginning of the game. The game ended Cannon 13, Sequatchie 16.
