Have you seen the CannonWire? Finally, Cannon County has a little daily news that seeks out more than just the dull old press releases and the CannonWire is available at the click of a mouse.
Trust me – even the smallest of news on a daily basis is a major job to print on paper or online and my heart goes out to Kim Davenport who has taken the lead with CannonWire.
Years ago I published (printed) the Cannon County Magazine. My intentions were for a nice monthly magazine about life and business in Cannon County. I let a friend talk me into publishing it every two weeks and reporting new events. It even had the look and feel of a small newspaper. I then offered some additional online news pretty much on a daily basis. The whole affair became life consuming, and frankly a little depressing. Depressing because some truly feel that if you don’t like the message – kill the messenger. It is difficult to be a good responsible reporter when you fail to alert the community to the negative news events and political happenings. I have discovered that reporting news can be a hazard to your social life and public acceptance.
It is important to remember, that nothing is free. Yes with a click of a button you can now read the CannonWire free, but for it to be there, Kim Davenport has spent her money and a whole lot of time to make it happen. It will only continue if the community offers encouragement and support.
